Welcome to our second Exhibition Layout

Grathwaite Junction is a DCC 00 Gauge layout based on an L&Y typical scene based in the 1970s through to the very early

1990’s. Stock is in two distinct eras BR blue TOPS through to Rail freight sectorization. Whilst not based on any location in

particular it draws on our recollection of areas we have visited.

This is our second exhibition layout, and uses the experience gained from building Thistlemere (BRM May 2007).   Some

of the features from that layout e.g. back scenes have been used on this and some e.g. point motors haven’t. There are

a number of cameo scenes ranging from the wagon repair shed to the carpet shop in the occupied arches. Buildings are

in the main out of the box Hornby Skaledale and Bachmann Scenecraft with some additional extras such as lights and figures.

The Traction Maintence Depot is constructed from 2 Wills Kits, with maintence pits added together with a crew building.

Wagon repair shed is custom built with welding unit and peco maintence pit. A first for us is the canal which has proven

to be interesting especially the use of clear varnish. It finds any gaps left in the construction, which has resulted in pools

of varnish appearing on the garage floor. A lesson to learn there for the next layout!!

Extensive use of LEDs on the layout is a key feature and the layout looks its best in complete darkness.

This started out as a DC layout and has been converted to DCC control with sound chips fitted to the locos.  Signals are

also controlled by DCC accessory decoders.
